The hardest concept for golfers to
believe is the idea of swinging
in-to-out. Most golfers
instinctively want to either throw
the club at the ball or use the club
to scoop the ball up in the
air –
neither method is very effective.
Remember, it is a SWING and the club
must be swung from inside of the
target line to outside of the target
line.
There
is a magic move to get the club in
position to swing inside-out and
here it is: at the top of the
backswing, while shifting your
weight to your left leg, pull the
handle of the club downward (as if
you’re tolling a bell) and drive
your right elbow into your right
hip, and STOP.
Now you are in the proper position
to strike the golf ball. Hold that
position to become familiar with it.
Now, swing back to the top of your
backswing from that position. Hold
it at the top, feel the position at
the top until you are comfortable.
Now, make the move again: while
shifting your weight to your left
leg, pull the handle of the club
downward (as if you’re tolling a
bell) and drive your right elbow
into your right hip, and STOP.
Repeat this move so it feels like
the pumping of a piston – stop at
the top, pull it down and hold,
swing it back up to the top, hold,
pull it back down, hold, etc.
Practice this move – make it into a
drill. This is the best way I know
of to teach the proper move to swing
the club inside-out. Good luck.
